Child Safety Alert: Massive Recall of Plastic Furniture Restraint Kits by Alliance4Safety and 31 Furniture Companies
The recall involves plastic New Age furniture tip restraint kits distributed by various furniture companies along with clothing storage units. The plastic zip tie used in these kits has the potential to become brittle or break, creating a serious tip-over and entrapment hazard during a furniture tip-over event. Furniture tip-over events can result in serious injury or death to children.
New Age Industries Co., Ltd. is a company based in Vietnam that manufactures tip restraint kits that are packaged with furniture from several different brands including Ashley Furniture, Bassett Furniture, and Kincaid, among others. The tip restraint kits include a plastic zip tie, 2 brackets, and 2 screws. The plastic zip tie is supposed to secure a bracket installed on the back of the furniture to a bracket installed in the wall. Below is a photograph of the tip restraint kit:
If you think you may have a piece of furniture that uses the New Age tip restraint kit, you should take the following steps:

2) Confirm that the furniture was manufactured by one of the companies participating in the recall. You can go to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website to check if your furniture was manufactured by one of the companies participating in the recall.

The Dangers of Furniture Tip Overs For Children
As children explore the world around them, climbing on furniture becomes a common activity. However, unsecured or unstable furniture can easily tip over, resulting in severe injuries or, tragically, even fatalities.
Thousands of children are rushed to emergency rooms each year due to injuries sustained in furniture tip-over incidents. The weight of furniture coupled with a child’s curious nature creates a dangerous situation, with dressers, bookshelves, and other pieces becoming potential hazards within our homes.
Flanagan & Bodenheimer advocates for proactive measures to prevent furniture tip-overs and protect our little ones. Here are essential steps to enhance child safety:
- Secure Furniture: Ensure that all furniture, especially dressers and bookshelves, are securely anchored to the wall. This simple step significantly reduces the risk of tip-overs.
- Avoid Placing Items on Top: Do not place tempting items like toys or remote controls on top of furniture, as it may entice children to climb.
- Educate Children: Teach children about the potential dangers of climbing on furniture and instill good habits to deter them from engaging in risky behavior.
- Choose Stable Furniture: When purchasing furniture, opt for pieces with a stable and sturdy design. Avoid lightweight or top-heavy items that are more prone to tipping.
In the unfortunate event that a child falls victim to a furniture tip-over due to negligence, Flanagan & Bodenheimer stands ready to provide legal support.
